Experience vs. Education: Which One Actually Makes Better Installers?

There are lessons you can only learn after years on the job. There are also things experience alone may never teach you.

In the flooring industry, experience has always carried weight, and for good reason. Time in the field builds instincts, problem-solving skills, and knowledge that can’t always be replicated in a classroom. But as products, standards, installation methods, and technology continue to evolve, ongoing education matters too.

In this episode of The Huddle, Paul and Jose take on the experience vs. education debate. They discuss what each brings to the table, where relying too heavily on one can create blind spots, and why years in the trade don’t necessarily mean there’s nothing left to learn.

The best installers aren’t defined by how long they’ve been doing the work or how many classes they’ve taken. They’re the ones who continue building on what they already know.

Maybe experience and education were never meant to compete. The real value comes from putting them together.
