The Jobs We Should Have Walked Away From

Most contractors have at least one job they knew, somewhere in the back of their mind, they probably shouldn’t have taken.

Maybe the expectations were unrealistic from the beginning. Maybe the scope kept changing, the numbers weren’t right, or the red flags started showing up before the work ever did. Sometimes you take the job anyway, and those are often the projects that teach you the most.

In this episode of The Huddle, Paul, Daniel, and Jose share their experiences with jobs they should have walked away from, with fellow Huddle host Jorge Orta jumping into part of the conversation as well. They talk about recognizing warning signs earlier, trusting your gut, setting better boundaries, and understanding that not every opportunity is actually good for your business.

Learning when to say “no” can take years. But once you understand the real cost of the wrong project, walking away starts to look a lot less like losing work and a lot more like protecting your time, reputation, and business.
