The Price of Being the Cheapest

Winning the job because you had the lowest number can feel like a victory. But what did it actually cost you?

In this episode of The Huddle, Paul, Daniel, and Jose dig into the pressure to compete on price in the flooring industry and what happens when being “the cheapest” becomes the strategy. Lower margins can affect everything from the time available to do the work right to the ability to invest in training, people, tools, and the future of the business.

The conversation also gets into a bigger industry problem: when customers are taught to shop almost entirely on price, craftsmanship and expertise become harder to value. Someone will almost always be willing to do the job for less. Building a sustainable business means giving customers a reason to choose you for something more.

There’s nothing wrong with being competitive. But if the only reason you’re winning work is because you’re the cheapest, it might be worth asking what you’re really winning.
